No Changes In Anthony Bennett's Recruiting Situation

Nov 30, 2011 8:59 PM

Canadian-born Anthony Bennett continues to consider various colleges and isn't expected to make a decision until the spring.

Bennett recently visited Kentucky and continues to consider UNLV, Florida, Washington, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Connecticut and Oregon.

“All [the] schools in my top nine are all calling me, but right now I’m just answering a few calls [and] just trying to stay focused in school,” said Bennett of how his recruitment is going. “Like I said before [I have] no favorites. I feel like all the schools are putting a lot of time and effort trying to recruit me to come to their school.”

UNLV Attacks UNC's Soft Perimeter Defense In Upset

Nov 27, 2011 12:22 PM

UNLV defeated North Carolina by a final score of 90-80 on Saturday. The Rebels penetrated through UNC's soft perimeter defense and then kicked the ball back out for three-pointers, going 13-for-32 on their attempts. They also outscored the Tar Heels by a 20-6 margin on second chance points.

“We have to contain the ball,” Kendall Marshall said, “and not put ourselves in positions where we’re so far into help [defense] that they get wide open shots.”

Chace Stanback had a career high 28 points for UNLV.

"I was surprised about a lot of things we didn't do,’’ UNC coach Roy Williams said. “We have to be stronger with the basketball. We have to guard the basketball better. We never did get the flow going. We have to be whole lot more patient."

Shabazz Muhammad Surprised When Coaches Mispronounce Name

Nov 19, 2011 1:52 PM

Shabazz Muhammad has been surprised that coaches attempting to recruit him have mispronounced his name.

“I absolutely can’t stand when people in general pronounce my name wrong,” said Muhammad. “But when coaches do it, it’s really surprising honestly. Throughout my recruitment it’s happened a lot, but a school that just keeps on doing it, they’re pretty much off the list.”

Muhammad, who is the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2012, is considering UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, TexasA&M, Arizona and UNLV.

“I’m used to it because people mispronounce my name all the time,” said Muhammad, a senior swingman at Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). “I understand because of the spelling of it so I’ll let it slide if it’s once or twice, but I’ll politely correct them if it goes past that. But coaches recruiting me, I’d think they would get it right. Seems like you’d want to get that right.”

Kentucky and Kansas have mispronounced his first name, with Shabazz being pronounced Shuh-BOZZ.

“Coach (Bill) Self said it wrong when I went there at Kansas, and I think he realized it pretty quick and changed it to the right pronunciation,” Muhammad said. “Then one of the assistants at Kentucky said it wrong on a visit and Coach (John) Calipari said it the right way real quick. Then the assistant caught on after that.”

Muhammad Ready To Watch College Games, Looking For Best Stylistic Fit

Nov 10, 2011 4:32 PM

Shabazz Muhammad, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2012, continues to put off his college decision. Unlike many other recruits, Muhammad doesn't need to sign early because he can choose any school in the country at any time.

"I think that's a really big advantage for me, to be able to find the style of play that fits me and sit down with my family to talk about which aspects of my game will fit into the programs I like.

"Watching these college games is really going to be an important thing for me."

Muhammad said he took official visits to Texas A&M in September and Kentucky in October.

Muhammad's meeting with John Calipari stands out.

"I think it's probably because it was my last official visit," he said, "but Coach Cal's personality is great. He pushes his players in practice. That's the thing I'm looking for. I'm trying to get better and get to the next level."

He plans to take his remaining official visits to Arizona, which is set to land the No. 1-rated group of early signees, Duke and Kansas. Muhammad also continues to consider UCLA and hometown UNLV, coached by the brother of his high school coach, Dave Rice.

Rosco Allen Commits To Stanford

Nov 1, 2011 10:36 AM

Rosco Allen has committed to Stanford over offers from UNLV and North Carolina.

Allen is a 6-foot-9 forward from Bishop Gorman.

"Their academics are incomparable," Allen said. "And it's a Pac-12 team. It just felt like a great fit on and off the court."

Allen is rated 55th by ESPN for the class of 2012.

"This year, people are going to see that he's a lot more aggressive," said Gaels coach Grant Rice, brother of UNLV coach Dave Rice. "Rosco is just so versatile at his height.

"I'm happy for him and his family. Stanford's been recruiting him for three years now, and he'll definitely be successful there."
